No Knife Necessary: Proven Nonsurgical Treatments for a Younger-Looking Neck

Non-surgical Options for Neck Rejuvenation

As we age, we naturally lose our skin's elasticity and plump quality. Sun exposure and the damage it causes hastens the breakdown of our collagen and elastin, leading to uneven pigmentation, discoloration, and age spots. Sun protection and clinical strength topicals such as antioxidants (retinol, vitamins C and B) and peptides are the first line of defense to protect and rejuvenate our necks.

As we approach our late 30s, the neck area can start displaying laxity at the junction with the chin. This "turkey neck" appearance continues to progress, but its severity will depend on our genetics, lifestyle, weight stability, and sun exposure. At Leah Nickie Advanced Aesthetics, we have several nonsurgical treatments that can both delay the appearance of "turkey neck" and improve the appearance of neck laxity, tone, and texture.

Mono Smooth Threads: This quick treatment places small, thin PDO sutures at the top of the neck and under the chin. The body heals around these sutures that are absorbed over several months. This healing is the formation of new collagen, leading to tightening that can correct the early signs of neck laxity. This treatment can be added to any other appointment with Dr. Julie and has a minimal risk of bruising and minimal discomfort.

Botulinum Toxin: The Platysma is a thin curtain-like muscle over the front of the neck. As we age, it becomes bandlike when we smile or animate. These bands accentuate the laxity that occurs with the overlying skin. Botulinum toxin injected into the platysmal bands can prevent the pull of the bands on lax tissue and lead to a softer appearance of the overlying skin on the entire neck.

Radiesse:  This injectable is a biostimulator clinically proven to increase collagen and elastin formation. It is injected with a cannula over the front of the neck like a veil. This adds a minor amount of filling or plumping, but more importantly, the activation of your body's own production of elastin and collagen. This is an easy procedure with minimal risk of bruising.

Thread Lifting: PDO thread lifting uses the mechanical strength of thicker PDO sutures placed along the jawline and the upper neck to physically move the loose skin back towards the ears. Short of surgery, PDO thread lifts give the most lift of any modality, including filler or any energy device. Your body gradually absorbs the sutures over approximately nine months. During that time, you heal over the sutures, leaving your neck tissue with a matrix of support that, with repeated treatments, can be longer lasting. The lidocaine injected before the Thread lift stings; otherwise, it is painless. The procedure is very unlikely to cause bruising. The first week is uncomfortable as you will feel the tightness of the threads when you move, and you may look a bit pulled and slightly swollen.

By the second week, the threads are incorporated into your tissue, you are comfortable, and the swelling has resolved.
